Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has launched its first fast charging facility at its headquarters in Kathmandu's Ratna Park as part of its rollout of 52 EV charging stations across Nepal. The EV charging station was inaugurated by Pampha Bhusal, Minister for Power, Water Resources and Irrigation.

As part of its Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Development Project, NEA is building 52 state-of-the-art charging facilities across the country with funding provided by the Asian Development Bank. Similarly, the authority hired Wangbang Digital Energy for technical support in terms of supply, testing, installation, operation, maintenance and recovery of the charging station.

Each charging station will be equipped with a 142 kW charger, a 50 kVA power transformer and an online charging system. Depending on location and vehicle traffic, the charging station will also offer 60/60 kW DC fast chargers and 22 kW AC chargers.

According to the authority, the tolls cost an average of 70 paisa per km for cars, 80 paisa for SUVs, 90 paisa for minibuses and Rs 1 for buses.
